South End House

South End Residence
Nestled within Halifax’s established South End, this three-storey residence reinterprets the familiar gable roof and dormer typology in a contemporary architectural language. The updated exterior unites traditional massing with modern materials—standing-seam metal roofing, refined dormer details, and minimal trim—presenting a fresh yet context-sensitive response to the streetscape.

A luminous two-storey volume on the ground level brings daylight deep into the main living space and creates a direct visual and physical connection to the backyard. This generous volume supports aging-in-place strategies, ensuring the home is accessible, adaptable, and welcoming to residents of all ages.

The upper and lower floors are thoughtfully organized to host both domestic life and visiting family. Upper-level dormers frame skyward views while the lower floor supports social zones designed for entertainment and connection.

Through deliberate design choices—clean lines, balanced proportions, expressive roof form—South End House bridges heritage and modernity. The result is a home of understated elegance, rooted in its neighbourhood yet confidently reimagined for contemporary living.
